Early December is nice for Christmas markets in towns like Brașov and Sibiu, while New Year / early January usually brings better chances of snow, which makes places like Peleș Castle and the surrounding Carpathians look even more atmospheric.
Sibiu is compact, beautiful, and perfect to ease into Romania.
Sibiu fucking slaps hard by way of comparison. Has a nice old town and makes a great base to explore the area….there is a lot to see around the city.
