  • I’d consider Shogun. While it’s not fantasy, it’s has a fantastical air about it because of the setting and perspective of the reader. Great book and ticks a lot of the boxes you want.

  • I'm not really speaking for the story of Shogun (which is fine) but it took a while to understand he was doing 3rd person omniscient and will just switch the POV from paragraph to paragraph sometimes. I understand why he's doing it, he's...
  • It’s not an easy read but it isn’t a hard read either. I certainly wouldn’t pick this book averaging 5 pages per night
  • There are a lot of themes in the book, and it gets complex at times. I wouldn't call it an easy read.

Enkoji was founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, made famous in the West as the deuteragonist in the Shogun book (my favorite novel) and recent TV series (an excellent adaptation), in the 1600s.
