I read the first two books and didn't feel like continuing. The worldbuilding and the general concept seemed interesting, and the characters on a surface level seemed to have interesting dynamics, but I just couldn't bring myself to care about them or what was happening. Some stuff like the Wasps being so singlemindedly bent on conquest and Inapt races being unable to even understand how a doorknob works felt silly too.

I'd strongly recommend Shadows of the Apt. It’s a completed 10-book series, and in my opinion, it's one of the best "lesser known" long sagas out there. It's absolutely worth the time commitment. ... The world-building is fantastic, grounded in this cultural tension, espionage, and the clash between tradition and innovation. ... SotA felt especially well-balanced across all ten volumes. I never hit a wall where reading felt like a chore, which can be a common complaint with WoT.

I haven't finished it yet (read 8 out of 10 books so far) but I really like it. The world is incredibly unique and the magic/technology systems develop in interesting ways over the course of the series.
I love the series, and happily recommend it as well worth the investment.
