Seychelles
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Seychelles is highly regarded for its stunning natural beauty, offering a mix of world-class beaches and accessible outdoor activities like hiking. While it is frequently compared to the Maldives, users note that Seychelles provides more opportunities to explore beyond the resort. However, it is consistently described as a high-cost, luxury-oriented destination that can be expensive for both cash and points-based travelers.
Pros
- Incredible landscapes and sublime beaches
- Safe and relatively simple to navigate for families
- Offers more land-based activities and hiking compared to the Maldives
- Considered friendly for solo travelers
Cons
- High cost of travel compared to other tropical destinations like the Philippines
- Can feel 'boring' for travelers who are not interested in hiking or snorkeling
- Luxury-focused market makes it difficult for budget-conscious visitors
Caveats
- Travelers often find that award stays can deplete points balances quickly for relatively few nights
- While more active than some island peers, the pace remains very quiet and nature-focused
Best for
- Luxury travelers
- Families seeking a safe, nature-oriented destination
- Hikers and beach enthusiasts
- Solo travelers
Avoid if
- You are traveling on a strict budget
- You prefer high-energy urban environments or constant nightlife over nature

This year I'm going to Kenya and Seychelles, first time in the African continent and from all reports both are solo traveler friendly and Kenya especially welcoming ti black travelers.
Same with Seychelles.
I was lucky enough to visit the Seychelles a while back and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
Seychelles is not cheap.
I really wanted to discover the Seychelles but I’m worried we’d get a little bored besides hiking? We did the Maldives in the past and while I loved all the snorkelling I still found myself bored throughout the day.
I've only been to the Philippines and Mauritius, but my understanding is that Seychelles is typically luxury travel, so you may want to avoid it if you're not trying to go super lux.
The Philippines is cheaper as compared to Seychelles and Mauritius.
