Sennheiser Momentum 4
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Sennheiser Momentum 4 is widely praised as a top-tier wireless headphone option, particularly for users who prioritize sound quality and exceptional battery life over absolute noise cancellation. While it is frequently compared to flagship models from Sony and Bose, Reddit users often highlight its more 'balanced' and 'musical' sound profile. However, opinions are mixed regarding its ANC effectiveness, which some describe as merely average, and its touch-based controls, which lack physical buttons.
Pros
- Industry-leading battery life, cited at approximately 60 hours.
- Superior sound quality and musicality compared to many wireless competitors.
- Excellent value for money, especially when purchased on sale or open-box.
- Effective at filtering low-frequency engine noise during travel.
- Strong performance for electronic music due to its sub-bass capabilities.
Cons
- Latex-like earpads can trap heat, creating an 'igloo' effect for the ears.
- Lack of physical buttons; relies on touch controls that some find less reliable.
- Bulky form factor takes up significant space in travel bags.
- Headband foam and sliding mechanisms have reported durability or comfort issues over time.
Caveats
- ANC performance is a major point of contention; it is often described as 'medium' or 'average' compared to class leaders.
- While excellent for wireless, users note it still cannot compete with high-end wired headphones like the HD650 for pure musicality.
- Some users report an initial 'disappointment' period before acclimating to the sound signature and features.
Best for
- Long-distance travelers who need maximum battery endurance.
- Listeners who prefer a balanced, high-fidelity sound in a wireless format.
- Mobile users looking for a rugged and premium-feeling travel headset.
Avoid if
- You primarily listen in stationary home environments where wired open-back options are available.
- You require the absolute best-in-class noise cancellation for high-stress environments.
- You have a strong preference for tactile physical buttons over touch interfaces.

places like FB Marketplace and r/AVExchange have great deals all the time on headphones like the XM5s, Bose QC, Momentum 4, and others.
The Sennheiser Momentum 4 is incredible value for money, sounds amazing, and has double the battery life of all other ANC headphones; but they are rather plain looking.
That said - the Momentum 4 offers 90% of the value of the HDB630 at a third of the cost IMO. My M4s are my preferred “rugged travel” headset.
What’s interesting is that the Momentum 4, which often sells for around $200, sometimes actually looks more premium in my opinion. That’s probably because of the different color options and the overall design.
Alas, they are pale imitations with ANC on. My HD650s and S12 Ultras are FAR better at musicality and nuance. OTOH, I got the M4s to be my meeting headphones, so they're not supposed to be musical in my use case. TBH, it reinforced my preference for wires...I will say they get MUCH better with ANC off, but still not competitive.
I'd definitely try to stretch the budget for the Momentum 4s, they are worth it and you won't need new headphones for years.
I'd definitely recommend the Sennheiser Momentum 4 (but no buttons).
I bought Sennheiser Momentum 4's which I absolutely love for day to day use! ... I have a couple of things I dislike about them: * The loud voice telling me I've (dis)connected to/from a device when actively using the headphones * Them connecting to 2 devices at once and then getting slight audio latency issues where sounds and images don't match up. * Obviously the ANC :)
The best option you named is the Momentum 4
The Momentum 4 is only good when it comes to sound quality and battery life. Otherwise, it’s pretty mediocre at everything else
