Pros
- I'd actually start with an HD 480 Pro. Balanced, clean sound and incredibly light/comfortable, which IMHO is an underrated consideration for long hours of usage.
- Will second the recommendation for an HD 480 Pro. I just picked up a pair and they're surprisingly good. Some of the best midrange in particular that I've heard on any headphone at any price.
- HD 480 Pro if you need a phenomenal closed back. The stock cables are close to 6 feet so they’re perfect for your use case.
- 480 behaves very well with glasses btw, I measured a 2dB drop when wearing glasses
- I switched to the Sennheiser HD 480 Pro for use at work and they fit my use case better and sound VERY similar, with a little more neutrality instead of warmth, but overall pretty close.
Cons
- I also have large ears and am finding these things a little finicky and uncomfortable. If I get them JUST right they fit well, but if they're even slightly wrong I can never stop noticing them. The sound is incredible though. The treble...
- Parent context: What's the difference between the pro and the pro plus? Reply: If they made them slightly bigger I'd be in love. Hifiman egg shape still king to my head and ears.

The sound is incredible though. The treble is just right where it's always audible but never piercing or sibilant.

Not pictured, my Sennheiser HD 480 Pro I use at work.
The new Sennheiser HD 480 Pro. It’s best closed back I’ve heard under $1k. The Bokeh Closed is the only one I’ve heard that I like better. The 480 Pro is better than the FT1, Azurys, HD 620s, Celestee, and the Noire X.

The 480 is my favorite headphone for on the go use. It’s perfect for about everything. It’s high comfort and isolates very well. I would always pick the 480 as it’s cheaper and better in almost every way but sound.
