Sedona is great. Montezumas castle is close, painted desert is gorgeous too. Horseshoe bend, etc. There’s roughly 20 state and national parks within 2-2.5 hours from Sedona.
One thing you might want to check in Sedona before you make the drive is if they doing any burns in the National Forest. I went up there in Dec and it was just choked in smoke. You could hardly see anything and it was just terrible on the lungs and sinuses.
And the hiking in the Sedona Red Rocks is without a doubt, some of the most jaw-dropping beauty anywhere.
Sedona AZ is gorgeous, red rocks, wineries, good food, great hiking trails, & a 2 hr drive from Grand Canyon.

Loved Sedona!!! I’ve done it twice. Once while staying with friends in PHX, we did a day trip to see town and hike, wasn’t terrible to drive back.
I initially landed on sedona because of the beautiful red rocks/hikes/scenery.
If you’re gonna be in Flagstaff, might as well hit Sedona.
