I wouldn't cut Santa Fe short, because there is a lot to see around Santa Fe. For instance, the Turquoise Trail, the old way to go from Santa Fe to Albuquerque is a great road trip. The road is dotted with quirky towns, art galleries, an iconic pueblo church, bottle trees and great scenery.
