Pros

• I am using sand because I have goldfish. Goldfish are dumb and put everything in their mouths. I do not want my goldfish to swallow a rock/pebble.

Cons

• From my experience, I would avoid sand since: -Sand doesn’t contain essential minerals for plant growth -Compacts and suffocates roots -Sand can release silicates into the water, which encourages the growth of diatoms
• I heard horror stories about using sand, so I figured using gravel instead would be a safer bet.
• its the reason why I don't like sand. The plants gets lightly coasted with silica and leaves gets brown spots on them.
• My ludwigias hated it but my rotalas were super happy in it.
• I’ve also heard some downfalls of sand with plants including, the roots not being able to spread and grow properly, not sure if there’s more downfalls to sand.
