Finally, I ended my trip in San Pedro de Atacama, which felt completely otherworldly... I fell in love with this place. highly recommend renting a bike and riding through the valley's.
However, certain places are too far. Like San Pedro de Atacama or Torres del Paine. So if you want to hit those, plan ahead.

San Pedro de Atacama has some more picturesque places, but is also much more expensive than Bolivia.
We then travelled south to Santiago before doing Pucon and Puerto Varas. We then hired a car and drove the entirety of Patagonia - was epic.
It just seems hard to get home from San Pedro de Atacama were most tours end. Santiago is really far and the closest airport is 3-4h away.
Make sure you spend a few days in San Pedro before attempting the hike, as you may have altitude sickness (my partner was not feeling great, hopefully I was ok).
I would spend that extra time in San Pedro; there’s a lot to see up in Atacama.
