Anyways in April I’d expect LA to have better weather but SF is a much better city to visit imo and the weather will still likely be nice.
As far as food goes, SF has the better variety of good food, but San Diego still has a wide variety of food options and definitely better Mexican food.
If you don’t want to drive may i suggest San Francisco vs LA. Much better public transportation and much smaller foot Print overall.

All that said, I think LA or San Francisco would be great choices.
One thing to consider is that SF has a lot of hills and not a very great public transit system. So you will end up walking up hills a lot or taking taxi/ride shares.
If you change your plan to instead visit San Francisco (which is a far better city than LA), you can get around the city easily via public transportation and you can take it to Yosemite easily. You can also check out Muir Woods from SF via bus.
There are beaches in San Francisco and Golden Gate Park that are 100% easy to get to, though and if you stay near the Embarcadero or otherwise near the water, nature will always be within view.
