Samsung tablets
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Samsung tablets are generally well-regarded for media consumption, note-taking, and their integrated ecosystem features like Samsung Flow. Users frequently highlight the included S Pen as a major advantage, noting its soft-tip feel is often preferred over the iPad's stylus. However, opinions are mixed regarding long-term reliability, with several reports of significant performance slowdowns after a few years and concerns about hardware failure if the battery is left fully depleted for extended periods.
Pros
- S Pen is often included at no extra charge and features a soft tip that many find superior for writing.
- Excellent battery life for media playback, with some users reporting it outperforms competitors in video tests.
- Samsung Flow allows for seamless document editing and transfers between devices.
- Strong performance for emulation, particularly on Snapdragon-equipped models.
- Highly recommended for media consumption, including gaming and video streaming.
Cons
- Performance tends to degrade significantly over time, especially on value or mid-range models.
- Reports of devices becoming completely unresponsive ('dead') if the battery is left drained for several days.
- Some users find the pricing too high relative to the hardware specs offered.
- Lower-end models (like the S6 Lite) may have screens that users find too small or 'atrocious' for specific tasks like displaying sheet music.
Caveats
- Longevity is a recurring issue; budget models are noted for becoming 'unusable' after a few years.
- A minimum of 8GB of RAM is recommended by users for multitasking or working with multiple layers in art apps.
- While the S Pen is praised for writing, some digital artists still prefer competitors for professional-grade work.
Best for
- Students needing a note-taking device with an included stylus.
- Users already integrated into the Samsung/Android ecosystem.
- Media consumption and light productivity tasks like document editing.
Avoid if
- You require a tablet that will maintain peak performance for 5+ years.
- You are looking for a professional-grade digital art workstation (mixed sentiment).
- You frequently leave your devices uncharged for long periods.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 386 days, which may not fully reflect the performance of the most recent hardware releases in this fast-changing product category.

Snapdragon Samsung tablet because of emulation
Other option is a Samsung tablet.
I have the 2nd Samsung tablet now which has been left with a drained battery for few days by mistake and it is now completely dead. It seems that this is general issue from which companies make money forcing people to buy new devices.
For watching video and playing games, I like the Samsung tablets.
I found the Samsung tablet the other day and was so slow, definitely didn't hold after the 5 year mark.
I noticed that many have commented that Samsung/one plus/xiaomi tablets are very good for media consumption and note taking and also for light editing work
even though I usualy love Samsung tablets I would not recommend them for digital art due to this above issue other than that Samsung is also a very equally good option
I prefer my samsung tablet. Pen is included and it doesn't need to be charged in some weird way. I use it a lot to draw digitally, watch films and videos, read webtoons and play games.
My brother bought his daughter a midrange Samsung tablet. It was around 200 USD and included the S Pen at no extra charge. She loves it and uses it all the time for her artwork and her homework.
I, personally, prefer the writing experience of the Samsung tablets. ... I like the writing experience over the iPad. That's just personal opinion though. The pen has a softer tip and feels a little less like writing on glass than the iPad.
