Runna

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Runna is a structured training app widely used for everything from beginner 5k plans to ultramarathons. It is frequently praised for its comprehensive approach, which integrates strength training and mobility work directly into running schedules. While users report significant performance gains and personal bests, the app is noted for its high subscription cost and demanding workout intensity that some find overly aggressive.
Pros
- Comprehensive plans that include integrated strength and mobility sessions
- Excellent technical integration with Garmin, Apple Watch, and Strava
- Effective for breaking plateaus and providing structure for specific race goals
- User-friendly interface that simplifies complex training blocks
Cons
- Expensive subscription model compared to other running apps
- Workouts and pace targets can be overly aggressive for some fitness levels
- Phone-based GPS tracking can be inconsistent or inaccurate compared to dedicated watches
- Reported lack of support for certain hardware like Samsung watches
Caveats
- The intensity of the interval and speed sessions may increase the risk of injury if users don't adjust for their own recovery needs
- Race time predictions provided by the app are sometimes viewed as overly optimistic
- Experienced runners may find the app's logic repeatable enough to eventually replace it with manual tracking
Best for
- Runners who want a 'coach-in-an-app' experience with minimal planning effort
- Athletes looking to integrate strength training into their running routine
- Beginners or intermediate runners training for their first major race distance
Avoid if
- You are on a tight budget and prefer free alternatives like spreadsheets or Garmin's built-in plans
- You prefer a low-intensity approach or are highly prone to overtraining injuries
- You require native support for a Samsung Galaxy watch
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median age of approximately 312 days, so users should check for recent app updates regarding hardware compatibility.

And apps like Runna also give you suggested workouts.
Even something like Runna (which I still don’t love) would be an improvement.
I am using Runna to build my plan.
I wouldn't use Runna, or an AI plan... I'm planning on using Runna; just started it to train for a 10k though its first long run for me was longer than the race and somewhat mistrustful of AI.
The 13-week training plan suggested by Runna has these total milage/long runs: Week | Total | Long Run 1 | 18.0 | 8.5 2 | 21.5 | 9.5 3 | 23.0 | 11.0 4 | 16.0 | 6.5 5 | 24.8 | 13.1 6 | 26.3 | 15.0 7 | 28.0 | 17.0 8 | 18.0 | 8.5 9 | 29.0 | 19.0 10 | 32.3 | 22.0 11 | 25.8 | 13.1 12 | 18.5 | 7.5 13 | 29.7 | 26.2 Is that too much too fast?
Just finished a 5.5.mile.easy run... And I did it RIGHT! Runna wanted me to stay at or slower than 10:50 and as much as I hate it, I did it. 10:55/mi. pace. I had a race yesterday so the easy run makes sense. It's just not easy to stick to it 😂
I signed up for a June half in South Dakota and trained very hard using Runna for 13 weeks. Max distance was 14 miles and plenty of fartleks and challenging pace intervals. I felt great going in (maybe a bit overtrained but still confident to meet my 2:00 goal pace).
If the app just handles everything for me, I run. I have never had such consistency as I’ve had with runna. I haven’t had a single run since I cancelled a week ago.
I’ve used Runna, and as much as I like it it’s too expensive. I don’t mind paying for a service, but the subscription fees are insane for everything I’ve been able to find.
I don’t have any nearby 10k races so I scheduled a time trial on Runna that happens to be today.
