Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Red Rising series is a highly acclaimed sci-fi saga frequently described as a blend of 'The Hunger Games' and 'Star Trek.' It is widely praised for its relentless pacing, top-tier action sequences, and compelling character development that keeps readers engaged across multiple volumes.

Pros

  • Exceptional pacing and 'sick' action scenes
  • Captivating first book that hooks readers immediately
  • Strong character writing, specifically noted for characters like Mustang
  • Excellent entry point for those new to audiobooks

Cons

  • Solo narration in later audiobooks can be confusing compared to earlier multi-actor versions
  • The narrator may sound 'tired' in some of the later solo recordings

Caveats

  • Listeners may prefer the Graphic Audio versions for the later books to better distinguish between characters and locations

Best for

  • Fans of fast-paced sci-fi and fantasy
  • Readers who enjoyed The Hunger Games, Star Trek, or Dungeon Crawler Carl
  • Audiobook enthusiasts looking for high-quality narration

Avoid if

  • You prefer 'drier' or more technical, hard sci-fi
  • You are sensitive to shifts in audiobook narration styles or solo-narrator clarity

Try the Red Rising series, the first book is very captivating and there are plenty of books to keep him busy for a while.

Now that the Graphic Audio versions of these last few books of the series are finally available, it is very refreshing to go back, and re-listen to those chapters where I could have sworn I thought an entirely different character was on a completely different planet, attacking a totally different city.

in Pierce Brown’s Red Rising Series, Tim Reynolds, along with a few other actors reads the original books, but towards the last few books in the series, it is just him, alone. And I felt very confused by his sole interpretation of which character was doing what thing, because he seems as though he might be a little tired in the recording booth.

I also recommend the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown. It's sci-fi with elements of fantasy. Think Hunger Games meets Star Trek.

Parent context: Red Rising series. Reply: This! Sounds exactly what you’re asking for. Dramatized version a bit quicker too.
