Quest for El Dorado

it is a really tight little deckbuilder. Knizia is a genius.

This one is a race game, should be simple enough. Takes a bit longer to setup due to the card market but it's a good balance of excitement (racing) and strategizing (deck building).

Quest For El Dorado so far for us. Setup time is shorter than something like Concordia while having fast turns but playing time is often just as long at around an hour or more each turn feels satisfying usually.

For 4p, Ticket to Ride, Quest for El Dorado

The Quest for El Dorado is far better than all those other games. It's a top tier Euro, it doesn't involve VP counting (it's a race), it can be taught to newbies in 5 minutes and it's over in under an hour if you use one of the manual's recommended setups.

Quest for El Dorado is deck builder that is widely appealing. So if it isn't too light for you and your son, it might be a decent option.

Me and my mom have been playing quest for el dorado recently and are loving it.

Another vote here for Quest for El Dorado. Really incredible game that's easy to learn, always exciting and super replayable.

Quest for El Dorado is a fantastic gateway game, along the lines of ticket to ride. Everybody I introduce it to can pick it up easy, enjoys it, and many often end up buying it.
