Anyway if you have the time, I'd take Qatar and give yourself a night stopover there which gives you a cheap hotel via discover qatar. I don't personally like going all of that way in one go and Qatar is really solid of course.
If he hadn’t stupidly re-booked a flight via Qatar once his first flight was cancelled due to the situation in *the Middle East,* there would be plenty of affordable flight options.

If you have a ticket with say Qatar from BKK to LHR, I assume one could be rebooked on any OneWorld carrier - BA, FIN, CX etc.
I'd check Etihad or Emirates. Imho they are the best at the moment.
