Punta Cana are mostly just resorts so if you go there, that’s mostly what you will see.
Punta Cana has all-inclusive properties that are only a couple of years old, very affordable, and on beautiful beaches. Rooms with swim out balconies, butler service, and spa are also available if you want to splurge.
When I was in Punta Cana I enjoyed a nice hike in the Indigenous Eyes National Park but it was an expensive cab fare to get us there because it was about an hour from our AI.
Punta Cana is basically a small area (not at all like Miami) surrounded by All Inclusives and tourist traps. There isn't a lot there to do outside of stay in your AI, but you need to be aware that the closer you are to the city, the older and more run down the resorts tend to be.
For easy options... Punta Cana, Cancun, Jamaica have the best All Inclusives and you will be able to find less expensive ones in each place. However you absolutely get what you pay for in these places, and you would want to spend a little more for better quality food, drinks, accomodations, and even excursions. The cheaper these places are, the more run down or full of college kids they tend to be.
