Pros

  • Kingdom Death Monster, Aeon’s Trespass, Primal
  • According to reviewers I trust, I think primal has some of the most interesting puzzle / decision space. It seems very thinky. They distilled movement down to 4 spaces and it seems to work well. The card play looks right up my alley. Alm...
  • If you want a really puzzly replayable boss battler than you want Primal. It can also be played as not a campaign game.
  • I think it’s perfect. Weird world, no technology lots of fighting, a protagonist that is just trying to survive. The episodes stand alone great too. 20 minutes, episodic, no need for background information.
  • I can't think of any reason why Bloodborne, Primal, Vagrantsong, or ATO would have issues at 3.

Cons

  • Yeah the 2 cons I often see with primal are the cost and if playing solo it can be quite a lot to manage. And I know some folks poo poo on playing with standees but primal more than most boss battler games would probably work very well w...
  • Primal is really good but I can’t justify a recommendation to anyone at that price point- unless you really lol miniatures (and maybe want to paint them). It has a lot of rules to remember and the hunters are all very different. If you...
  • The high price and needless miniatures are certainly frustrating.
  • Is primal actually that good? I was holding out for their black friday sale, and when it went up the game was a measly 10% off so I checked out. Is there a lot of depth in the positioning system? It kindof struck me as being 50lbs of pla...
  • I was thinking maybe Primal did it but seems convoluted to do it in there

What redditors said (10 of 14)

Yeah the 2 cons I often see with primal are the cost and if playing solo it can be quite a lot to manage. And I know some folks poo poo on playing with standees but primal more than most boss battler games would probably work very well with standees . There are no large terrain pieces , the boss doesn’t move around , the players don’t move around the field in the same manner as oathsworn or monster hunter etc… like yes standees would take away from the spectacle but in terms of pure gameplay , it would work. Heck I’ve heard of some who would buy the game and just sell the miniatures whilst holding on to everything else because the boss battling is that good .

Primal is really good but I can’t justify a recommendation to anyone at that price point- unless you really lol miniatures (and maybe want to paint them). It has a lot of rules to remember and the hunters are all very different. If you can find a copy for like , maybe 50% off, then it’s probably worth it.

Is primal actually that good? I was holding out for their black friday sale, and when it went up the game was a measly 10% off so I checked out. Is there a lot of depth in the positioning system? It kindof struck me as being 50lbs of plastic that boied down to standing in a circle with a few minis and executing skills.

I’m not a big bib fan but in general I like Pearl Izumi and Primal for affordable cycling clothing. Primal has great sale prices
