Positano felt busy and touristy. I didn't particularly care for Positano.
Positano is stunning, but it’s more of a scenery and relaxation destination than a first cultural introduction.
I’ve been to Positano many times and go during shoulder season when it’s much more enjoyable. I’ve never seen the “Instagram” crowds in person, except the one time I was there during July ( only went during that month for a wedding).
I prefer both Positano and Ischia over Sorrento. The beaches in Positano aren’t great though, so if you’re going for that, you may be disappointed.
We always base in Positano and love it, although Praiano and Amalfi itself are also a good base.
