Portugal is perfect for your vibe. The wine scene there is seriously underrated, the seafood is incredible, and your budget will go way further than Greece or France.
I think the coast of Portugal and out to the Azores should be good too.
The nature was absolutely beautiful, but unfortunately there was trash everywhere, which we found very sad.
Unfortunately, our overall experience was not a pleasant one. Many people (that doesn’t mean everyone, relax) would roll their eyes when they saw that we didn’t speak Portuguese (this happened most often in restaurants when we wanted to order something). On top of that, after a certain hour there were a lot of weird men approaching us and making us feel unsafe.
Aside from the food, which I enjoyed, I would say the trip was a disappointment overall. The nature is beautiful, but there is trash everywhere. Moreover, the worst part was the people; many I encountered rolled their eyes when they realized I didn’t speak Portuguese. When I asked questions, they wouldn’t reply or would respond in Portuguese even though I specifically asked for English. I wish that was all, but there were a lot of weirdos on the street after 8 p.m. calling me and my wife names or asking if they could join us. To be honest, I will never come back, and I advise all wlw couples to come with caution if they visit this country. Oh, and the queer clubs sucked and people weren’t friendly at all.
Southern Spain, Portugal, or Italy are normally great around this time if you’re wanting to stay in Europe
If not, an easy first timer route is something like Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Budapest. Or something like sticking to 3 countries. France, Spain, Portugal (will be hot).
I actually like Portugal more than Spain because I felt like the people are friendlier.
Portugal checks a lot of your boxes. Fly JFK to Lisbon direct in about 7 hours, then split your time between Lisbon and either the Algarve or the Azores. Lisbon is great for 1-2 days, then head south or island hop. The Algarve has coasteering, cliff jumping, and kayaking through sea caves. The Azores are next level for adrenaline — canyoning, paragliding, diving with mantas. Short flights between all of them and September weather is perfect.
Portugal and Colombia are also great for this.
