I would recommend either the Kobo Clara BW or one of the PocketBook Verse models. They're both 6" models, so quite portable, and from good brands.
First thing I do when people think of buying the Verse Lite is recommending the standard Verse. Being able to change colour temperature for reading in the dark is a huge plus, buttons for page flipping (or at least assign stuff to if you don't use them) and the battery is 50% larger.
the Verse uses the currently oldest tech (+ the lower resolution), but if you can live with it, it's (in my opinion) a very decent device.
There's also the PocketBook Verse Lite (which I wouldn't recommend because of lower battery capacity, no possibility of setting colour temperature and no buttons - but outside of that should be decent), and the PocketBook Verse.
it's a perfectly usable device, and the only 6'' non Android device that even has expandable storage. It 100% fits your needs.
I at the moment long-term test my new 6'' Kobo Clara BW and realized right at the beginning why I loved my old 6'' PocketBook Verse so much (it felt and fitted awesomly in my hand).
