Pros
- Big upgrade for very cheap. Now I can read at night without a reading lamp.
- Maybe the Basic Lux 4 from PocketBook, if you can find it. It's the predecessor of the PocketBook Verse, the only differences are afaik different buttons and a Micro USB port instead of USB-C.
- Seconding the Basic Lux 4, I'm pretty happy with it. Got it secondhand (pretty much never used) for 40€ and even though the seller basically only shipped it in a paperbag without padding (🤦♀️) it got to me completely unharmed, so I'm t...
- still have a budget line with the Basic Lux 4 and the non-pro Verse that have a little bit lower resolution, but do have SD card slots.
- Pocketbook Basic Lux 4 works fine for me it onehanded
Cons
- I like the pocketbook basic lux 4. 6" screen, pretty ergonomic, it's got an SD card so you can add your own books (or get a lot of books with their store), and it might be pretty waterproof iirc. Only issue is that it's a little laggy an...
- Basically, it’s a decent brand. I think the Basic Lux 4 is probably on the way out - it’s an older basic model in their lineup (as the name implies) and isn’t widely available any more, AFAIK.

Only issue is that it's a little laggy and uses micro USB, but that's just nitpicking because it's an e-reader and not a phone.

I have a Pocketbook Basic Lux 4 and am very happy with it. My first one too and I went for the cheapest one I could find on purpose because I wanted to see if I could get use to an ereader.
It was/is a Pocketbook Basic Lux 4 and I am very happy with it. I have had it for about 8 months now and Pocketbook is definitely not out of the question when it is time for a new one.
I have a Pocketbook Basic Lux 4 and am very happy with it. No ads at all. Lock screen shows the cover of the book I'm reading. No store, so... no recommended section. Sideload is easy. Either from your computer, dropbox or by mail. I charge mine about once a week and use it for, on average, 5-6 hours per day.
