Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • replace the Vecto with a platypus or Evernew bag. Both lighter and more durable
  • Cnoc bladders are heavy. Replace with a Platypus or Evernew bag, or just more plastic bottles
  • A CNOC is too heavy for UL backpacking: use a Platypus instead.
  • For water I carried 2 smart water bottles and a 2L water bottle from platypus. That worked great for the desert.
  • Mine started doing that too after a number of trips. So like others have mentioned, I switched to a Platypus. Not as convenient due to the small opening, but it works.

Cons

  • Same goes with platypus when one of mine dried out. If stored with stale water it starts to smell like mold too. Kind of a bummer.
  • Sawyer CNOC (or a regular CNOC?) vs Platypus. Just got the Sawyer CNOC with a new filter and damn, it’s awesome. But also 2 oz heavier than the Platypus. :(

The Vecto is not a very UL option. Get a Platypus of an appropriate size to replace it. 36g vs 79g for the 2L versions.

I suggest either Cnoc one liter or Platypus for receiver bottles because you can press the air out so they fill easily.

The platypus was faster from my recollection but if you keep your sawyer clean, it’s not really slow.
