I really like Dean Koontz as a classic suspense/thriller master. I haven’t read his newest book yet, but some older good ones are Watchers, Phantoms, By the Light of the Moon, Odd Thomas.
I read Phantoms for the first time last year and kind of scoffed thinking of it as an *It* ripoff. Then I checked and noticed it came out 3 years earlier.

Two that come to mind are It and Phantoms; ... In Phantoms, I think it was a scene involving a message left on a mirror in lipstick.
