Pros

  • Until now it’s all been the baggies, hiking pants will come in on colder hikes (in patagonia for a long time).
  • The Baggies pack down super small and work great for both hiking and grabbing dinner in cities. I took mine through Vietnam and they were clutch - dried fast too when I had to wash them in hostel sinks
  • greatest shorts of all time
  • I bring a pair of Patagonia baggies for pretty much this exact scenario. It's my generic work-out shorts that doubles as swim trunks. Hiking to and from swim holes in the wilderness, they dry pretty quick as well.
  • I wanted the exact same things and went for Patagonia baggies. I’m very satisfied

Cons

  • Easily my pick as well, just be aware they are loud and the pockets are extremely deep. Can be found on sale for 30-40$ pretty often and are very versatile.
  • I really wanted to like baggies, but they have a lot of drag for swimming. Not an issue if you are just going to get yourself wet, but a bit of pain if you are going to crank out a mile.
  • I’m a big fan of Patagonia Baggies too but don’t like the wider look. I have had luck with the slim versions though!
  • I know the Patagonia Baggies get recommended a lot but I am not a fan of baggier shorts.

The Patagonia baggies are 5” and have attached pockets to the main part of the short. They work in the water, but also as normal shorts. They offer a back pocket too which is kind of neat, and doesn’t stand out too much. There is also an elastic strap in the right pocket(doesn’t effect the feel of the shorts on your leg) that acts as a strap to connect your keys to.
