Great story, and Parable of the Talents was a fantastic follow-up.
Parable of the Sower and its sequel Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler. Is dark though. In my opinion even more than The Road.
Read both of the Parable books in the past year, and they immediately became some of my favorites. Sower was discomforting, but parts of Talents were downright spooky.
I decided to read Talents after all and just started it last night. I'm only on chapter 3, but so far I'm liking it quite a lot!

I think the second book (“Parable of the Talents”) provides a rather conclusive ending. Butler would have liked to do a third but IMO the existing two tell a complete story.
