Pros

  • You could also consider Pakistan it’s incredibly scenic (mountains, valleys, culture), very affordable, and becoming more popular for solo travellers.
  • Outside of North America, go to areas of countries with sizeable Muslim populations. Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh. There's more than kababs and shawarma in North Africa. You can also find fusion d...
  • Highly highly recommend Pakistan as a country, it’s one of my absolute favorites

Cons

  • Pakistan obviously has beautiful landscapes but I don’t think they have tourist infrastructure in place to properly enjoy it. When you’re there you probably need to know a local who can speak Urdu or take you around. It’ll be a lot of lo...
  • Very high on the "avoid" list is southern asia, so Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and ESPECIALLY India. A lot of indians absolutely hate black people. And as a solo woman you have even more to worry about. **- NO!**
  • I personally also don’t want to give my tourism dollars to a country where women don’t get to participate in public spaces.
  • I definitely would not advise traveling solo in Afghanistan or crossing most of the border with Pakistan for safety and logistical reasons.

Pakistan obviously has beautiful landscapes but I don’t think they have tourist infrastructure in place to properly enjoy it. When you’re there you probably need to know a local who can speak Urdu or take you around. It’ll be a lot of logistical planning that can take away from the experience

It is a beautiful country with friendly people. But it is also a poor developing country with its fair share of problems. As every other destination, it is a mixed bag of pros and cons. How those balance out is for everybody different. I would not recommend it for the 'average' western tourist, but for people with an 'adventurous spirit' it can be a very rewarding destination.
