Pros

  • Ouray definitely has an old Western feel to it. You can base yourself there and have lots to do.
  • I’m also a big fan of ouray, which is a stunning mountain town.
  • From there, I would go to Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Springs, make your way down to Silverton, Ouray, Mesa Verde (get tickets), Telluride, etc. This area of SW Colorado is very cool and close to Utah.
  • Definitely Ouray, great little town, fantastic hiking trails that start right downtown
  • Ouray is worth the drive for sure. If you flew into Montrose you’d be halfway between the two and could split up the drive a bit. Orvis hot springs are amazing ( clothing optional so forewarned) and Colorado Boy pizza is legit!

Cons

  • Ouray is nice. It’s smaller and not necessarily teeming with restaurants, for example. But for a couple of days you’d be fine. You could do Ouray and Telluride together for a shorter travel time. Crested Butte is great though.

Ouray is one of my favorite Colorado towns. Only downside could be if the weather is bad the drive could be tough. Otherwise I definitely recommend Ouray.
