Osprey Talon 22

For daypack grab an Osprey Talon 22 or Gregory Nano 20.

My Osprey Talon 22 has served me well on day hikes for 10 years and in every condition.

I’ve the Talon 22 which I use for day hikes. It’s comfortable and the hip belt pockets make it easy for quick grabs. It’s too small a pack for travel or longer hikes imo, especially in winter if you need a thicker layer.

Parent context: oh! reason for asking is that the hip belt on the talon 22 isn't removable. the only thing you can do if you don't want to use it is clip it around the back of the pack .. it's a little odd that way but at least isn't in your way. I love hiking with mine but you have to be in the mood for a hip belt. matador gets great reviews of course. if you don't always want a hip belt, there might be other … Reply: thanks. that's my concern actually. the hip belt is generally not necessary for EDC. to the extent i'm exploring a new city and putting in 10-15k, then the talon's hip belt (which is supposed to be very good), can distribute the weight and be effective. but i think generally i'm covered at that size and capacity. the talon 22 looks pretty big on the model's that i've seen.

I love hiking with mine but you have to be in the mood for a hip belt.

the osprey talon 22 is highly regarded and generally viewed as best in class in that area.

people use the Talon 22 this way sometimes too. Anything without metal in it should at least squish flat.

Or Talon 22, even. That's getting closer to your price too.
