Osprey Comet

I just got an osprey comet. Feels significantly lighter than the Carhartt I was using. Had some decent padding on straps and backplate.

The Osprey Quasar or the Osprey Comet (more so than the Nebula which is on the larger size for a daypack) are perfect for your stated used cases. The Comet has a dedicated laptop compartment as well.
