Pros
- I absolutely loved that game, definitely one of the best platformers I've ever played and it's a shame it's likely to be the last Ori game we'll see. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, which was far too ambiguous and, in my int...
- even though the gameplay isn't necessary at odds with the story either, like It found to be the case in Ori and the Blind Forest.
- I think, in terms of design, art style, gameplay, etc. that both games are immaculate, but I agree about the emotional manipulation aspect.
- And? I really like it, on the cusp of loving it if not for some smaller quibbles. Amazing what a change in mindset can do. To quickly rundown what I generally liked: the art is gorgeous, the music is great, the story is, *not* in fact hi...
- Parent context: I started it recently and it’s gorgeous and started thinking hey this is actually quite easy and then got to the part with birds and was like oh. And I’m stuck on a part where I’m supposed to jump climb a wall where I hav...
Cons
- Earlier this year i wanted to do that again, and noticed how bad the first Game actually is. Not from a graphical or story wise setting, no, it´s these controls and it´s response.
- I thought it was a beautiful game, with some minor flaws and one glaring problem, which definitely brought down the experience for me. That problem was that the gameplay and story elements did not mesh well together at all.
- The emotional stakes end up not landing for a lot of people because there's no set up. It's like a shallow version of a Studio Ghibli story. I do think Ori is pretty overrated. It's still like an 8/10 game, but nowhere near the masterpie...
- I do think there is *something* about Ori that, at times, feels a bit emotionally manipulative. The best way I can describe it is like the feeling you get when you see a video of a sad news story but someone put it in black and white wit...
- I found Ori to be overly showy and pretentious in its presentation, and the intro where (spoilers for a decade old game) Naru dies to be emotionally manipulative. I felt that it was an indie platformer that acted above its station by try...

I absolutely loved that game, definitely one of the best platformers I've ever played and it's a shame it's likely to be the last Ori game we'll see. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, which was far too ambiguous and, in my interpretation, very very sad.

The emotional stakes end up not landing for a lot of people because there's no set up. It's like a shallow version of a Studio Ghibli story. I do think Ori is pretty overrated. It's still like an 8/10 game, but nowhere near the masterpiece people make it seem like.

I do think there is *something* about Ori that, at times, feels a bit emotionally manipulative. The best way I can describe it is like the feeling you get when you see a video of a sad news story but someone put it in black and white with sad piano music in the background.
I found Ori to be overly showy and pretentious in its presentation, and the intro where (spoilers for a decade old game) Naru dies to be emotionally manipulative. I felt that it was an indie platformer that acted above its station by trying to be cinematic.
And? I really like it, on the cusp of loving it if not for some smaller quibbles. Amazing what a change in mindset can do. To quickly rundown what I generally liked: the art is gorgeous, the music is great, the story is, *not* in fact hifalutin nonsense but is actually quite emotional if you aren't dedicated to picking everything apart like a rump roast.
Parent context: I started it recently and it’s gorgeous and started thinking hey this is actually quite easy and then got to the part with birds and was like oh. And I’m stuck on a part where I’m supposed to jump climb a wall where I have to jump on different sides to avoid enemies and I just can’t. do. it. Maybe this game is too difficult to me because if stuff that is this simple (I’m guessing) gets to me then … Reply: Keep trying. I know it's frustrating, but that game is very rewarding when you successfully get past a difficult area. I have zero desire to play soul games because usually difficult games are not my jam. But Ori hits differently. Believe me I got frustrated a few times (especially at the notorious hardest part), but I got through them all. The endorphin rush is huge when you do. And the game is just gorgeous.
