Orconomics

I'd been putting this one off because I don't love satire, but this was actually highly entertaining. I did have to skim over the on-the-nose financial satire chapters because I felt like they distracted from the worldbuilding. But if you like that sort of thing, then this is a must.

Orconomics by J Zachary Pike leans into the humor in a way that doesn't distract from the seriousness.

These (and a couple of Connie Willis) audiobooks got me through being bedridden for nearly two weeks with covid a few years ago. I kept laughing so hard I'd hurt myself coughing.

I picked these up as audiobooks and they truly are fantastic. The excellent narration and vocal range for characters was a cherry on top of what was already an excellent story!

This is one of my favorite books, period — not just in the context of SPFBO. ... I am always looking for an author who comes close to his level of wit, humor, biting satire, social commentary, and living, breathing world and characters. I’ve got to say, Pike comes super close.

Have you read Orconomics? It is a great fantasy read in its own right but also a great satire of high finance and specifically about the 2008 financial crash. It delves into race/species issues, class, and how the quasi-capitalist system of the setting exploits the underclass and under-races.
