Pros

• If you just require a network attached storage through a shared mount, open media vault is a good option.
• I use OpenMediaVault personally, cause it's free, and with mergerFS and snapraid it's almost like Unraid.
• Otherwise if it really is just a storage option you’re looking for and don’t want to go too far down the ZFS rabbit hole, OMV is pretty straightforward. You can setup MergerFS + SnapRAID and have a pretty good NAS platform right there

Cons

• I have considered using an OpenMediaVault VM, but that requires creating a virtual hard-drive and passing it in. This means that my storage is all in a .qcow or .raw disk image file and is not easily visible from the host.
• I built a Pi-NAS with OMV using the Geekworm Quad-Bay NVMe board and ultimately scrapped the entire thing. Performance was abysmal
