If you expect to “see something wow” then Onomichi just doesn’t have it. It’s a town facing inland Seto sea so expect calm vibe and retro vibe.

It's a beautiful town.
Also Kurashiki and Onomichi are lovely
And if I'd choose between the two id say for sure go to Onomichi instead for the incredible scenery.
Would suggest heading early to neighboring Onomichi instead- loads of shrines, a beautiful bay, lots of independant artisanal shops and great food.
