I have left out Omoide Yokocho - Memory Lane. While it has an incredible retro aesthetic, it is an absolute minefield for a vegetarian. Almost every tiny stall relies on heavy cross-contamination from meat and chicken skewers on shared grills.
Golden Gai is fantastic, but Omoide Yokocho is also recommended.

There's no need to go to Omoide Yokocho. It's two 75-meters of drinking places overrun by drunken tourists. Pretty much any station has a similar are near it.
I'd also suggest skipping... Golden Gai, and Omoide Yokocho (once generic drinking areas now inundated with drunken tourists and akin to drinking areas around virtually every other station in the Tokyo area).
Golden Gai/Omoide Yokocho: Two drinking alleys renowned only because they're near a busy station. Every other station you go by will have similar places, full of drunken Japanese, rather than of drunken tourists.
