Pros

  • I chose to get a TEO-5 instead for the simple reason that I like it’s sound better.
  • The Take 5 and TEO-5 were marked down closer to what they were at the beginning of the year at GC, so I took the opportunity to get the TEO-5.
  • I have a TEO-5 and the Take 5 and a lot of patches on the two of them I can make sounds almost identical, but there is enough difference in thr filters and envelopes for me to still love them both in the context of my music.
  • TEO lends itself to be a bit brighter filter and has less finicky FM sythesis as it is through zero. I would say TEO is also a more versatile.
  • The TEO-5 keybed *(and Take-5, which is the same)* is among the best I've had.

Cons

  • Ive also looked at the Take-5 and the TEO-5, but they're currently out of my price range by a bit.
  • The TEO is still rather expensive for what it is (a purposely limited, rather old-fashioned 5-voice synth with a fairly hefty price tag.)
  • My main gripe with the TEO is the 3,5 octaves. I have a Reface CS which I love, but find the 3 octaves limiting. Adding just half on octave seems like a marginal upgrade. It frustrates me to no end that they couldn't make it at least 4 o...

The mod-matrix on TEO-5 *(and Take-5)* is more than just a "new trick". It is incredibly, incredibly powerful and very intuitive. It makes the synth more than just a classic recreation, and something that you can do extensive sound design on, much like a Rev2...but with a sound quality that is unique and classic.

and a TEO-5 (replaced a Take-5, which replaced my Prophet 08).

The only synths I own are a TEO-5, a Digitakt (soon to be replaced by a Digitakt II), and my modular. So those are my favorites.
