Both in Ireland and Scotland, our highlights were the smaller, uncommercialized places and attractions, which certainly include Glencoe, and also OBAN and numerous other tiny distilleries that are not dominating 40% of your big box alcohol store’s shelf space wherever you live.
Oban is great, also the gateway to the outer islands via the extensive ferries that take off from there
What are your plans for Inverness? It’s nice but we didn’t love it. We did love Oban though.
Oban is just so beautiful! A beautiful little port town - and maybe the first real port town I have been to.
It's not as naturally beautiful as some spots but I think Oban is a pretty fun town, some pubs good there, and alright food too. Plus a decent base if you want to take a day trip to any of the nearby islands.
Oban's a really fun little town. Not absolutely rammed with tourists at this time of the year, good local pubs, couple of great restaurants, accommodation often not too bad, lots of nature around you, and great for getting to a lot of the islands.
Oban sucks in June. Way too busy.
Oban isn't worth the stay. In tourist season it's a pig to get around and the countryside, while better than the vast majority of the (mostly stunning) UK, it is relatively built-up or smothered with plantation forest.
you could add in a couple of nights in Oban and do some boat trips to the islands.
Oban is great, and there's loads of good day trips from there - Mull, Kilmartin Glen, Loch Awe and Kilchurn Castle, Glencoe, Kerrera, Lismore, or Seil.
