Pros

  • All of these would be suitable to learn synthesis on and to make a lot of sounds with, with the UDO or Summit probably having the biggest range since it can go beyond the basic waveforms easily.
  • Of these options, Summit if it was my only synth, sounds great and can do a lot.
  • My answer to you would be, buy the Novation Summit. It will do everything you want, and more. The Summit has beautiful built in fx, especially the reverb (which helps with the texture and drone sounds). It can make all sorts of cold and...
  • I think the Novation Summit (though not exactly analog) is the best poly synth on this price range.
  • I found I could replicate everything the Polybrute did on my Novation Summit, while the Summit's wavetables, 3-op FM, or bitimbral capabilities were irreplicable by the Polybrute.

Cons

  • It is a shame Summit only have mono aftertouch and not a complete poly aftertouch.
  • Used Novation Summit

My answer to you would be, buy the Novation Summit. It will do everything you want, and more. The Summit has beautiful built in fx, especially the reverb (which helps with the texture and drone sounds). It can make all sorts of cold and lush warm sounds across the sonic spectrum. ... I've owned it before and I'm very very close to buying it again, as nothing has compared to what if offers in sound and capability for an "all around synth".

The summit can do this freely and use eg 4 voices per note on a 4 note chord.

it sounds absolutely MEGA and has a very wide range of sweet spots, whilst it appears hard work to get the Summit to sound bad

My summit is my favorite synth that I own. I cant imagine ever letting it go. ... Its so knobby and other than wavetables its all right in front of you. ... I really like the filter and it has an external input and I run other synths through its filter and effects.

Summit would be my pick. You can make nice subtractive sounds ...and then go way beyond that.
