Pros
- Agreed. It is such a powerful and impactful book. One of the few that definitely changed the way I see not only the world but also myself.
- It's heavy in the sense that you spend the entire book inside the head of a deeply depressed guy. But it's a short book, and a pretty easy read. Definitely worth giving a go if you don't mind being bummed out.
- Osamu Dazai - No Longer Human (semi-autobiographical, very psychologically challenging)
- I also really enjoy horror manga like Junji Ito's work (especially Shivers & his No Longer Human adaptation)
- I read and loved No Longer Human. It was worth reading.
Cons
- There’s a lot of misogyny laced throughout in my opinion. I disliked the narrator, but I was okay with that since I felt the goal of the story wasn’t to find him likable. It was a test of empathy that’s for sure
- An easy 4/5 read. Only thing wrong with that book is the portrayal of women which makes me wonder is it just the character or is that how Dazai actually views women.

I am reading No Longer Human as we speak! It is genuinely very good.
Great book, atrocious vibes but great book.

I love this book, one of those ones where it feels like the author was speaking my own thoughts in a way I didn't know was possible
This book was such a good but emotionally difficult read for me. ... I really enjoyed (idk if that's the right word, but it's the best I've got at the moment) Dazai's use of the clown as a visual motif (for Yozo) - its decreasing use as Yozo continued on his journey was something I noted too.
