Omg thank you, I feel this exact way. I usually just boil it down to feeling like his writing is just doing stuff to try and be shocking and gross, and it comes across as cheap. But you've explained this much better than that. I do NOT get the Nick Cutter love.

I really love his writing and have really enjoyed everything I’ve read.
I will say that Nick Cutter is definitely not for me, lol. I think he's a bit of a hack and DNF'd two of the three books of his that I've read, barely made it through the third.
As a fan of Nick Cutter, I always chuckle every time he uses the word “sluice or sluiced.”
