What redditors said (10 of 18)
I’m really interested in queer horror (Clive barker is one of the absolute goats of literature in general)
I would tread with caution, as the previous commenter said, because sexual assault/rape is featured in some of his works (though again, to me it never feels like it’s trying to be titillating) but overall I cannot recommend his writing enough.
Clive Barker was my gateway author outside of King: *Books of Blood*
Clive Barker is the GOAT
if you've an appreciation for language, I recommend anything by Clive Barker. His prose is exceptional, and influenced my life to a great degree.
Personally, I think Barker is the best of the authors I've suggested. There's something... poetic...almost...about his writing and how he creates worlds.
Short story-wise, I’ve read and loved a lot of Shirley Jackson, Clive Barker and Harlan Ellison.
If I say The Fisherman is meh and my favorite author is Clive Barker, that tells you some but different than if I say my favorite author is Thomas Ligotti.
Parent context: Cane here to suggest this. Really anything by Clive Barker is great! Reply: Books Of Blood by Clive Barker
Basically any Clive Barker. In particular, I really loved the use of eroticism in Coldheart Canyon. It was sexy, filthy and scary all at once.
