The highlight was definitely Neuschwanstein Castle, which was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately I couldn’t take pictures inside but it was truly built for royalty. Seeing such grandness was insane and I truly felt like a peasant walking through, I couldn’t wrap my head around living in such grandeur.
The experience up on the mountain is poor - it’s just a busy tourist trap made mostly of concrete.
I think you could skip Neuschwanstein altogether unless it's a bucket list thing. It's just another castle otherwise.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is way cheaper than Switzerland and has the Partnach Gorge hike which is stunning, plus Neuschwanstein castle is 45 minutes away.
I'd personally add Neuschwanstein Castle to your route. It’s one of the most famous castles in Europe and the scenery around it in the Bavarian Alps is beautiful too.
As you will travel pretty soon i.e in down season, you might want do consider "Neuschwanstein castle", about 2 hours from Munich and pretty special.
