Pros

  • “Mr. Mercedes” is freaking fantastic, it’s a Stephen King (crime/thriller, not so much horror) adaptation that *he worked on* so you know it’s up to his high standards.
  • Other great King reads are The Shining followed by Doctor Sleep, Mr Mercedes, Misery, and the brilliant Fairy Tale.
  • Not MCH but amazing narration. Mr Mercedes by Stephen King.
  • Start with Mr. Mercedes. I think she’s great in The Outsider and I enjoyed the Holly novel.
  • Today, at this moment, my favorite is Mr Mercedes, the way King builds the scene, the people, the car waiting in the shadows...

Cons

  • Parent context: Try Mr Mercedes. It is 3 books. But one of the main characters, holley gibney, is continued in 3 more books. The outsider, if it bleeds, and Holley Reply: I'm a fan of the trilogy but I don't know if I'd consider it high/...
  • I was bored out of my skull for the first half of this book... but it all came together really well in the second half (hot take: the introduction of the controversial Holly Gibney, now a stock character for King, saved the book for me).
  • I was bored out of my skull for the first half of this book (the cynical detective vs clever serial killer trope is one of my allergies, actually), but it all came together really well in the second half (hot take: the introduction of th...

**Mr, Mercedes** is one of King’s detective crime novels, this one about a serial mass murderer which causes three unlikely people — a retired cop, a smart teenager, and a very observant neuro-divergent older woman — to band together and solve the crime. The opening chapter is so good and it will hopefully hook you like it did me.

Also in his later period, he started to write crime thrillers, like Mr. Mercedes which is really good. It's the first book in the Bill Hodges trilogy.
