Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Good places to start Discworld include Mort, Guards! Guards! and Wyrd Sisters.
  • “Mort” is a good starting spot for most anybody and happens to star a teenage boy learning about consequences
  • Now I’m reading Mort and I can confirm the books DO get better than they already are.
  • Mort, gives you a good sense of how Discworld is laid out/ functions.
  • I recommend going a few books later, and start with Guards Guards or Mort to get a better feel of Discworld.

Cons

  • I found it just fine. Nothing noticeably bad about it but I didn’t find the plot or any of the characters very compelling.
  • Nothing noticeably bad about it but I didn’t find the plot or any of the characters very compelling. That said, I could see Death being an interesting character in other stories.
  • Ideas are: - Mort (or other Discworld novels)

Mort is a better intro book, imo, and the other two are the first books in the Watch and Witches series, respectively.

I also listened to Mort as my first ever Mistborn novel. Love the voice of Death. I really enjoyed this one but I did get lost a few times through the book.
