Monstrilio

Monstrilio is amazing.

The only book I’ve read that maybe fits is Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova. It’s not to do with miscarriage, but a mother’s grief over her dead child that motivates her to take a piece of his lung which grows into a creature.

Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova It’s not “scary” per se, but it’s very good and very queer.

I got into horror only a few months ago and I really enjoyed monstrilio and trad wife by Schaeffer.

This book made me cry at multiple times. I loved it.

Monstrilio is a unique gem of a book. It’s like a Mexican folk tale + family drama + queer lit + coming of age + horror + so many things, all told with great heart.

I’ve been through a lot of grief and read plenty of books exploring grief and this was by far my favorite depiction of it. The rawness, the strange coping mechanisms, grief as a physical being idk I need to get my thoughts in order but yes. It’s a beautiful book

It broke my heart in so many different ways, and yet it was so beautiful. Really loved that book. Wish I could read it again for the first time
