Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Monster Hunter Wilds is characterized as a mechanically strong and accessible evolution of the series that suffered from a deeply polarizing technical launch. While the core gameplay and seasonal content are highly praised, the prevailing sentiment is dominated by reports of severe optimization issues, particularly on PC, where even high-end hardware struggled to maintain stable performance.

Pros

  • Highly accessible entry point for newcomers to the series.
  • Engaging core gameplay loop that many consider the most fun in the franchise.
  • Significant amount of seasonal content and 'hype' surrounding its release.
  • PS5 version includes both capped and uncapped frame rate options.
  • Benefits significantly from hardware with 3D V-Cache.

Cons

  • Widespread reports of poor optimization and low frame rates, especially on PC.
  • Technical issues including crashes and corrupted save files at launch.
  • Visual quality concerns, with some users describing the graphics as 'mushy' or 'grainy'.
  • RE Engine appears to struggle with the game's open-world scope compared to linear titles.
  • High hardware requirements that leave mid-range builds (like the RTX 3080) struggling.

Caveats

  • Performance reports are inconsistent; some PS5 users reported a 'flawless' experience post-patch while others found it unacceptable.
  • Much of the negative sentiment stems from the launch-day state and early technical demos.
  • Steam user reviews were notably mixed (around 47% positive) shortly after release due to technical hurdles.

Best for

  • Series veterans with high-end PC rigs or current-gen consoles.
  • Players who prioritize gameplay depth and content volume over technical polish.
  • Users with CPUs featuring 3D V-Cache.

Avoid if

  • You are playing on older or mid-range hardware.
  • You have a low tolerance for frame rate instability and stuttering.
  • You prefer to wait for a game to be fully patched and optimized before purchasing.

Monster Hunter Wilds struggles on weaker hardware... BUT this isnt a PC issue, its the result of a very badly optimized game from a studio that cheaped out on the game development.

in the Tech Demo my CPU was also struggling and I got like 45 frames, I assume because of all the animal behaviour that needs to be calculated offscreen.

Some games, like Monster Hunter Wilds was so buggy and a huge mess on release that if I was that studio, I would be in shame for offering this proposal

Monster Hunter Wilds is maybe one of the most unoptimized games released this decade - this is a very, very well known fact.

Yes, Dragon's Dogma 2 (and other RE Engine based games like Monster Hunter Wilds) tend to benefit pretty massively from 3D v-cache.

Oblivion remastered and MHW are some of the worst optimized games to have come out recently and run like shit on most any system, so don’t expect too much from those games

The most noticeable issue was with Monster Hunter Wilds and Helldivers, and I used a fan placed at the front of the tower, which reduced the stuttering (even though my temperatures were normal and not high; I had seen this with other programs like CPU-Z, and it was normal).

that is true its also in monster hunter wilds but that game isn't that optimized. Also it makes no sense because i can run ray trancing on high an get the exact same fps

In Monster Hunter, I can’t reach 60 FPS in the hub or the fields no matter what I do. With the latest optimization patch, the game no longer stutters or hangs as much as before, but it still feels terrible having to cap the game at 40 FPS just for smoothness.

Latest Monster Hunter game, one of Capcom's fastest and best-selling games of all-time. It's Monster Hunter gameplay with now more additional seasonal content to pad the experience.
