one of the second cities of Emilia-Romagna (Ferrara, Modena, Parma, etc). They'll give you historical centers, great food, and a relaxed pace but enough to see for a couple of days.
We just did a quick stop in Modena and it was lovely.
Parma, Modena, Reggio Emilia are all awesome.
Modena is insaaane for good food. 2 nights here for balsamic tours and a couple of good dinners is a good minimum stay.
If you find any extra time I can also recommend Padova, Rimini and San Marino or Modena with the Ferrari museum. They were all pretty nice
