Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Mitsubishi Outlander is generally regarded as a high-value, reliable SUV that offers a smooth and quiet driving experience. It is frequently praised for being more affordable than competitors like the Honda CR-V or Toyota Highlander, especially when considering top-tier trims which come well-equipped with features like wireless CarPlay. However, the vehicle is polarizing due to its CVT transmission, which some users find slow, and its base trim level, which is criticized for lacking modern safety systems and technology.

Pros

  • Excellent value for the price compared to other Japanese SUVs
  • Smooth and quiet ride quality
  • Top-spec models are well-loaded with features and tech
  • Considered reliable and easy to maneuver
  • Available with three rows of seating at a lower price point than many rivals

Cons

  • CVT transmission is often described as slow or noticeable
  • Base trim level lacks essential safety systems (ADAS, blind spot monitoring)
  • Interior space, particularly the third row, can feel cramped
  • Base infotainment display is small with lower-quality upholstery

Caveats

  • The Outlander shares a platform with the Nissan X-Trail, which may influence parts availability and driving feel
  • Advertised entry-level prices (e.g., 80k AED) may not reflect actual dealer stock or include necessary features
  • The third row is best suited for occasional use or small children

Best for

  • Budget-conscious families needing a 3-row SUV
  • Buyers looking for a reliable, 'newer' vehicle at a lower price point
  • Drivers who prioritize a quiet and smooth ride over performance

Avoid if

  • You strongly dislike the feel of a CVT transmission
  • You require a powerful engine or V6 powertrain
  • You are looking for a base model with modern safety and driver-assistance tech

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is slightly older (median age ~299 days), which is generally acceptable for a stable vehicle model, but buyers should verify specs for the most recent model year.

The fuel consumption is decent. Full tank of 50L ranges from 500-700 plus km depending on your driving style. Comparable to my 2015 CRV's fuel consumption.

We purchased the Outlander last year for 79,900 AED plus vat. This is the basic model and honestly I got all the features that I need. I think have a look at the Outlander. It will be additional 10k AED on the basic model but you will have the 2.5L engine and bigger vehicle.

Mitsubishi outlander is 15 inches shorter than the sienna. ... Overall not the best vehicle, but in conjunction with 0% financing for 84 months it could be a value contender.

I would consider Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail or Mitsubishi Outlander, reliability with fair resale value.

Someone listed the Outlander and I am sorry—I have driven that car for the long term... AC was weaker than my Suzuki Ciaz and QIN PLUS. Overall the AC was always at max speed even in colder weather, and at a standstill the AC did nothing except blow hot air... The power felt as if I was driving a YARIS with added weight... The CVT was trying to be an automatic gear shifter and it was, let’s say, not smooth at either... Third row stayed 100% down as it had completely no use because the third row is always touching the second row, so forget even children sitting in the back.
