Pros

  • We Used to Live here by Marcus Kliewer and Mister Magic by Kiersten White both have this, ironically I was just checking the sub for similar recs to those two
  • Parent context: Maybe Mister Magic by Kiersten White? It’s not exactly the same but there are elements of the story that remind me of that in the later half of the book. Reply: I’m not sure if the vibe is similar to that SCP but I’m digg...
  • Mister Magic was so good!!!!!
  • In the past month i have read (listened to at work) Mister Magic... i am just blown away by these stories and how vivid they describe things. Works of art really.
  • I'd also add in Mister Magic, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and Thirteen Storeys, from my recent reads.

Cons

  • Mister Magic by White for me. It’s way too silly but in a way that’s cringe, I didn’t care about any of the characters, and I just couldn’t deal with that anymore.
  • It was alright, but really similar to Candle Cove. Not a direct ripoff but you can tell the author got a lot of their ideas from it.
  • There were parts I liked (the concept, the mystery, some of the characters) and parts I didn't like (the reveal, the ending). Overall, I think it was an enjoyable read. I think my biggest complaint was that there's a lot of telling a...
  • I liked it less as it went on and the why was revealed, but it was still a worthwhile read if you want something about a creepy kids show.
  • Mister Magic by Kiersten White is a book that I have a few gripes with, but I still think it's worth a read.

The ending wasn’t my favorite but I really liked the book as a whole. As an ex-Mormon I enjoyed the themes and was not surprised to hear that the author was ex-mormon herself.
