I do not personally like Sanderson's writing, but Mistborn is hugely popular for a reason. I will note it is light on "classic representations of magic, elves..." but Sanderson's worldbuilding is very popular with people who like worldbuilding.
I've heard both Mistborn and The Dark Tower described this way, although I bounced off of both.

I strongly disagree with the Lord Ruler. Making one right decision a millennium ago does not give someone permission to create a pure evil eternal empire. Especially when that Empire is not necessary in stopping the greater threat.
Mistborn and The First Law so far for me. Both are my all time favourites now.
Mistborn (Fantasy with a great magic system, has lots of tension and action, plenty of mysterious things to figure out through the three-book series!)
picked up The Final Empire (as Mistborn was the most recommended entry point to his work) and finished it in a week. Finished all of Era 1 in a month
Some of my favourites are Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle, Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy (I've read most of Sanderson's other stuff too)
